Yangarra Estate is a biodynamic wine farm in the McLaren Vale region in South Australia. The Yangarra philosophy centres around producing wines solely from its single-vineyard estate and the property is devoted to the best grape varieties of the southern Rhone. Yangarra's combination of rare geologies, moderate altitude, abundant sunshine and cool evening breezes make it perfect for growing varieties that thrive in these moderate maritime environments.
43/34/23% grenache/shiraz/mourvèdre; élevage in old puncheons, foudre, ceramic eggs and amphorae. Naturally, this is grenache-led. And not just by numbers, but by flavour, lithe weight and architecture. Wild raspberry, damson and tart blackberry, with a liberal dusting of ground spices, dipping both into baking and master stock territory. The balance of varieties is à point, the tension, fine tannin, verve and energetic drive compelling. It is a finely wrought and keenly frisky expression. Superb, especially for the tariff. Date: Sept 2024; Alcohol: 13.5%; Price: $38.00; Drink by: 2028; Rating: 95 Points & Special Value Star; James Halliday Wine Companion
