Ulithorne produces small quantities of red wines from selected parcels of grapes from its estate vineyard in McLaren Vale, planted in 1950 by Bob Whiting. These rare and high-quality wines are crafted to always consider the fruit first – ensuring that the final wine celebrates all that is unique in the flavours and structure of the fruit taste, as it ripens in the vineyard.
Invigorating and vibrant with a refined acidity. Flavours of lime, delicate florals and mineral undertones.
Offering fabulous fruit purity and poise, the wine shows white flesh nectarine, crunchy apple, lime peel and jasmine nuances on the nose, followed by a finely focused palate that's bright and lively. Splendidly structured and lingering with a brilliant tension and drive. At its best: 2026 to 2040. Date: Apr 2024; Rating: 95 Points; Sam Kim; Wine Orbit
From a single vineyard in the Clare Valley, and a top-notch vintage, Altus apparently means high in Latin, which is a nod to the altitude of the vineyard. A lemony/straw colour, this is a fresh, attractive and obviously youthful Riesling. Good focus, all the bones here are in place and the flesh will continue to build. There is a chalky backing, good acidity and decent length. Notes of lemons and grapefruits are to the fore, and continue to emerge on the palate. We also have a touch of florals. Six to eight years, this is a wine which will improve over that time. Date: June 2024; Price: $30.00; Drink by: 2024-2032; Rating: 92 Points; Ken Gargett; Wine Pilot
