Stonier is situated in Victoria’s picturesque Mornington Peninsula. The first Chardonnay was planted in 1978 and Pinot Noir in 1982. Over more than 25 years later, Stonier has developed a reputation as a producer of exceptional Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Stonier Pinot Noir is sourced from a select group of hand tended vineyards located amongst the rolling hills of the Mornington Peninsula. The Peninsula’s unique geography and cool maritime conditions contribute to a highly distinctive expression of Pinot Noir, typically showing flavours of vibrant cherry to savoury plum within a fine tannin structure.
A fruit driven, early drinking style; fruit sourced from younger vineyards cropped at under three-tonnes to the acre. The palate reflects the generous fruit of the nose, with careful use of oak to enhance varietal characteristics. The Stonier Chardonnay was 80% barrel fermented in predominantly old oak with lees stirring and complete malolactic fermentation, with 20% fermented in stainless steel maintaining the fresh, powerful fruit characters typical of this wine. Pale gold, with a green tinge. Lifted lemon blossom with exotic fruits and honey and a hint of spicy oak. Lovely fresh lemon sorbet flavours with a powerful condensed middle palate opening up to a lingering creamy citrus finish.
