Where once Coonawarra was the undisputed king of Australian Cabernet, in the past two decades, Margaret River has not only made significant ground in claiming that title but surely now made it its own. With a climate not dissimilar to that of Bordeaux the final piece of the jigsaw - price - now allows us to bring 90+ Point rated wines at more than reasonable prices. Not only does our StarDozen serve to highlight the exceptional quality and value here but also the remarkably consistently excellent recent vintages that Eastern Australia could only wish for. This collection features 3 bottles each from 4 renowned Margaret River producers with a whopping 93 Points or better from Australia's leading wine critics.

The StarDozen consists of the following:

3 bottles      Voyager Estate The Modern Cabernet Sauvignon 2019
3 bottles      Miles From Nowhere Origin Of Now Cabernet Sauvignon 2022
3 bottles      Arlewood Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

Voyager Estate The Modern Cabernet Sauvignon 2019
A superb array of aromas on show, which are pretty and understated starting with violets, pine needles and cedar with the 12% Merlot in the blend showing itself in the form of mulberry all kept in check by high quality oak. Juicy, vibrant and mid-weight, there is a delightful upfront, supple appeal to the wine which cascades over the palate in waves before it is tightened up by light, al-dente tannins. Fresh acidity give vibrance to a silky, ethereal finish. I am not always a fan of user-friendly Cabernet but this is stunning, if in an earlier drinking style. Rating: 95 Points; Wine Pilot

Miles From Nowhere Origin Of Now Cabernet Sauvignon 2022
A seamlessly crafted Margaret River cabernet where everything just sits together in perfect harmony. Floral notes mingle with substantial blackcurrant aromas. The palate is firmly structured with chalky tannins and plenty of oak from the mix of French and Hungarian. Yet it retains its elegance and refinement. Potential for extended ageing here. Price: $100.00; Rating: 95 points; Ray Jordan

Arlewood Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon 2019
Deepish and bright red purple colour, with a lifted fresh red berry aroma with hints of crushed leaves and tobacco. Merlot suspected in the mix. The palate is soft and rich, savoury and rounded with granular tannins and good balance. Very attractive wine and well priced. Drink: 2022 to 2034; Price: $40.00; Alcohol: 13.5%; Rating: 93 Points; Huon Hooke; The Real Review

Devils Lair Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon 2022
It has all the regional flavours one could wish for – the sweet mulberries, cassis, the bay leaves, freshly rolled tobacco, choc-mint and nori. But wait, there’s more. It’s full bodied, rich and ripe, structured and detailed in equal measure with plentiful if firm tannins. This is going to last quite some distance but it offers a compelling argument to have a glass or two now, such is its vibrancy and appeal. Drink to: 2038; Price: $50.00; Date Tasted: March 2024; Alcohol: 14%; Rating: 95 Points & Special Value Star; James Halliday Wine Companion
