Wynns Coonawarra Black Label Cabernet Sauvignon 2019
Oh, it does the heart good to see this wine singing such a beautiful tune these days. It remains one of my favourite Aussie cabernets for so many reasons – history and quality are two, but then there is how it almost mirrors my own journey in wine from the time I first tasted one of these. In fact I have been fortunate to have participated in vertical tastings of every wine back to that seminal 1954, and they remain among my most cherished memories in Australian wine. This has a beautiful seductive cherry and red berry aroma augmenting the cassis of Coonawarra cabernet. The palate delivers high energy and brightness as it drives to an effortlessly long finish. Highly polished and elegant with a suave poise. These wines cellar for decades if you wish. Ray Jordan; 97 points, Wine Pilot
Stonehaven Reserve Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon 2021
Sourced from adjacent rows of 40-year-old vines hand-pruned to control the yield to 5t/ha. Cold maceration and pressed direct to oak for 18 months in French hogsheads. This is a seriously good cabernet from an excellent vintage. Its length is exceptional, as is its structure and slinky tannins, part fruit, part oak. Drink to: 2045; Price: $60.00; Date Published: August 2023; Alcohol: 14.5%; Rating: 97 Points; James Halliday; The Weekend Australian
Magarey Lane Single Vineyard Glenroy Cabernet Sauvignon 2016
This is impressively composed and styled, showing cassis, cigar, cedar and warm spice aromas on the nose. The palate offers terrific weight and depth, combined with refined texture and chalky tannins, making it both sturdy and velvety. Wonderfully flavoursome and hugely appealing. At its best: now to 2033. Date: Jan 2024; Rating: 96; Sam Kim; Wine Orbit
Penley Tolmer Cabernet Sauvignon 2021
Matured in French oak (20% new) for 12 months. Prepare to get carried away on a Ribena cloud as boysenberries float on by and dark cherry and beetroot juice waver underneath you. The purity of fruit is remarkable with judicious oak cradling in support. Soft licorice, glittering black sandy tannins, kombu and a slurp to the up-tempo acidity. Remarkable in its staying power on the palate, this will age very well. Date: Feb 2024; Alcohol: 14.5%; Price: $30.00; Drink by: 2035; Rating: 96 Points & Special Value Star; James Halliday Wine Companion
