Rieslingfreak No.3 Clare Valley Riesling 2024
Such a beautiful, concentrated yet composed wine from John's mum and dad's vineyard at White Hutt, 5.8km north of the Clare township. So perfumed and essential, with crunchy lime, green apple and grapefruit alongside high tones of wildflowers, Christmas lily, jasmine, talc, mineral salts, peach skin and stone. Concentrated yet super-tight on the palate with a tubular core of focused lime and citrus fruits, a beautifully fine structure and a tangy, energetic line with velocity to burn. O'Leary Walker Polish Hill River Riesling 2024
The twin to the Watervale, this Polish Hill River Riesling, from the same stellar vintage, is spectacular stuff and brilliant buying. Trout stream clear, this is all riverstones, talc, florals, limes, spices, oystershell notes, lemon blossoms and grapefruit pith. Good intensity and a lingering, extremely long, finish, but along the way, impeccable balance and crunchy acidity. A Riesling for the ages. Grosset Polish Hill Riesling 2024
Exceptional concentration of fruit flavour here. This is straight and direct but wow it has a charge to it. Lime, chalk, white flower and wet slate flavours storm through the palate in emphatic fashion. There’s an extra note to the finish that I can’t quite place but I’ll call it brine splashed on potpourri splashed on rocks. The longer I sit and taste this wine the more I think that this is a Grosset riesling for the ages. Seppelt Drumborg Riesling 2024
2024 is officially the 60th anniversary of the planting of Drumborg vineyard. A truly wonderful milestone! A terrific wine, too, opening with focused aromas of lemon sherbet, pink grapefruit, makrut lime and orange blossom. The palate is just as focused and pure fruited, with the wine's 3.6g/L residual sugar perfectly balanced by its mouth-watering acidity. Have this with food now, but make sure you still have a bottle or two a decade, or longer, from now.
