The Agricultural Company Giovanni Sordo is in the heart of the well-known Barolo region, in the municipality of Castiglione Falletto - just a few kilometers away from Alba, in the province of Cuneo. It is a family run winery, now in the hands of Giorgio - Giovanni's son - the third generation of a family who has been tending and producing wines for more than a century. The estate was founded in 1912 by the great-father Joseph, but the real turnover came with His son John who - together with His Wife Mary, the real witness of the family's story - bought several vineyards of Nebbiolo for Barolo - the Sorì in Piedmontese language - among the best in the Barolo wine district.
The grapes of the cru Villero are grown in one of the best vineyards located in the surroundings of Castiglione Falletto.
Perfectly brilliant, this wine boasts an intense garnet red colour. The alcohol content is expressed by the formation of legs and tears into the glass. The bouquet is intense and captivating with notes of liquorice, mint and mature fruit. Floral nuances, alpine hay, liquorice and tobacco are the tertiary notes which come up with ageing. Hints of forest floor and noble wood complete the nose. In the mouth it is warm and round. Tannins are strong but smooth and – together with good acidity – emphasize the structure of a rich and potent wine suitable for long aging. These features confirm a powerful full-bodied wine of great prestige. The Villero has a good aging potential and reaches its best as years go by.
