Seppelt has been at the forefront of Australian winemaking for over 160 years. From its humble beginnings in 1851, when Joseph Seppelt established Seppeltsfield in the Barossa, to today: renowned for producing elegant shiraz, table and sparkling wines from an exceptional collection of Victorian vineyards. Seppelt pioneered cool climate viticulture with the establishment of the Drumborg vineyard at Henty in 1964. The ground-breaking vineyard was planted with the express purpose of providing the highest quality Chardonnay.
Jaluka Chardonnay harnesses the unique characteristics and cool maritime climate of Henty, and incorporates some parcels of fruit from Seppelt’s prized Drumborg Vineyard established in 1964 – one of the Southernmost Vineyards of mainland Australia. The 2019 Jaluka features lively citrus and stone fruit characters with a creamy texture balanced by well-integrated French oak to produce a complex, refined Chardonnay.
And what a release it is too, complete with perfect bottle age. The nose is classic Jaluka with nectarine, white peach, apple and grapefruit. The high quality fruit source is as obvious as the classy French Oak nuances and the trademark minerality while rare at this price point has become a hallmark of this label. This is a wine of great intensity, boasting an undoubtedly broader mouthfeel with a few years in the bottle but with further improvement on the cards.
