In 1850, 12 miles north east of Penola, Mr John Smith established a sheep station and called the site Comaum. By 1888, with the arrival of more families to the area, Comaum School was opened. Our premium Coonawarra vineyard is situated on the original school house site, and each year a special wine is released in its honour.
An abundance of purple and black fruits, with concentrated notes of dark cherry, bay leaf and dark chocolate. Vibrant fruit supported by elegant tannins and subtle toasted oak create a seamless, layered wine with depth, generosity and graceful aging potential.
Gorgeously expressed and instantly appealing, the wine shows dark and purple fruit richness with vanilla, cake spice, cedar and dark cocoa nuances on the nose. The palate exhibits excellent power and concentration, brilliantly complemented by fleshy texture and silky tannins. Multi- layered and deliciously appealing. At its best: Now to 2034; Price: $80.00; Rating: 95 Points; Sam Kim; Wine Orbit
Matured for 12 months in American and French oak. Impossibly blue and bright on the nose – blackberry pie, blueberry and fresh bay leaf. In the mouth the wine is satisfying and fresh, almost uncomplicated in its expression of succulent, saturated fruit flavour. It is velvety and full. The length is very good, it shows promise for the years ahead. Erin Larkin; Drink to: 2037; Price: $80.00; Date Tasted: January 2022; Alcohol: 14.5%; Rating: 95 Points; James Halliday Wine Companion
