One of the greatest names in all of Burgundy, dating back to the 1930s when Armand was one of the first of five domaines to defy the negociants and bottle their own wine. The Rousseau name is synonymous with Gevrey-Chambertin; Armand passed the reins to Charles who on retirement passed control to his son Eric.

A ripe yet exceptionally fresh combination is comprised by the essence of black cherry and poached plum allied with an array of spice, floral, earth and wood nuances. There is strikingly good intensity to the elegant but punchy medium weight plus flavors that exude palpable minerality on the powerful, focused and superbly long and highly refreshing finale. The harmony and balance are impressive, and this built-to-age CSJ should prove to be very long-lived, even in the context of a wine that routinely repays several decades of cellaring. Date: Jan 2023; Drink: 2040+; Issue: 89; Comments: Outstanding; Rating 96 Points; Allen Meadows; Burghound

Aromas of dark berries, cherries, plums, burning embers, loamy soil and black truffles, framed by a patina of toasty new oak, introduce Rousseau's 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos Saint-Jacques, a full-bodied, deep and layered wine with a velvety attack that segues into a concentrated, tightly wound core, concluding with a long, penetrating finish. This is a serious Clos Saint-Jacques that's built for the long haul. Date: Jan 2022; Rating: 95-97+ Points; William Kelley; Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate
