A discreet application of wood is in evidence on the cooler yet slightly riper and decidedly spicier aromas of red and black currant, exotic tea and star anise nuances. The rich, delicious and notably denser mediumbodied flavors coat the palate with dry extract while delivering sneaky good length on the noticeably more structured and definitely more austere finale. I particularly like the fruit-acid-tannin balance and this should age effortlessly over the next 15 or so years. Date: Jan 2024; Drink: 2036+; Issue: 93; Rating 94 Points; Allen Meadows; Burghound
The 2021 Echézeaux Grand Cru is bright and nervy, but also very nicely lifted, with pretty aromatics that make a strong opening statement. Crushed flowers, sage, mint, red-toned fruit, orange peel and sweet pipe tobacco are all delineated. There is some angularity to the contours. Bottle age will help, but I expect the 2021 will always be a rather tense Echézeaux. Aeration works quite well here. Drink: 2029-2051; Rating: 92 Points; Neal Martin; Vinous
The 2021 Échézeaux Grand Cru has turned out beautifully in bottle, bursting with aromas of wild strawberries, spruce, baking spices and orange zest, followed by a full-bodied, fleshy and enveloping palate that's taken on appreciable mid-palate fat and dimension since I tasted it from barrel last year. Supple and sappy, its concentrated but weightless core of fruit largely conceals its fine but sinewy structuring tannins. Drink: 2027-2055; Rating: 95 Points; William Kelley; Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate
