From a very long line of winegrowers dating back to the 15th century, Rémi Jobard took over from his father Charles in 1992. The entire vineyard is cordon-pruned and the vineyard is grassed-over to encourage the vine roots to go deep. To capture all of the texture and nuance Remi now bottles all of his wines without filtration 16 months after vintage. To enhance the mineral character over sweetness or bitterness, Remi ages all his wines in tight-grained 1200L Stockinger barrels from Austria, He likes the way the wines develop in these large volumes, in which the 'oaking' effect is minimised, aromatic purity is the result.
80% Pierreclos (Mâconnais), 20% Puligny-Montrachet. 40+ year old vines. I love Aligoté. Apple and ripe lemon, a white flower perfume, cool mint/aniseed, with a gentle hazelnut creaminess. It’s bright and tight, but delivers flavour with a subtle nuttiness and honey mint, lemon/grapefruit/green apple with some zest and pithy grip, saline and savoury on a finish of fine length. So fine and lovely. It’s so white Burgundy, but with the delicious tilt that this grape variety provides. Date: Nov 2023; Alcohol: 13%; Price: $115; Closure: Cork; Drink: 2023-2028+; Rated: 95 Points; Gary Walsh; The Wine Front
