The Pousse d’Or domaine at Volnay was established in 1954. Its vineyards are anything but ordinary, consisting as they do mainly of premier and grand crus in the villages of Morey-Saint-Denis, Chambolle-Musigny, Corton, Pommard, Volnay, Puligny-Montrachet and Santenay. The domaine’s 18 hectares yield 90,000 bottles annually and are managed in a spirit of respect for terroir.
Le Domaine de la Pousse d’Or can be traced back to the Dukes of Burgundy and the year 1100. Since 1997, its new owner Patrick Landanger has invested considerable resources both in the vineyards themselves and in the arrangements for vinification and elevage.
A spicy and relatively high-toned nose features notes of various red berries, plum and a hint of exotic tea. Once again there is a really lovely texture to the nicely tension-filled medium weight flavors that exude evident minerality on the curiously slightly sweet and mildly warm finale. This may better harmonize with a few years of bottle age but at present it's a bit awkward. Date: Apr 2022; Drink: 2028+; Issue: 86; Rating 89-91 Points; Allen Meadows; Burghound
