The Pousse dOr domaine at Volnay was established in 1954. Its vineyards are anything but ordinary, consisting as they do mainly of premier and grand crus in the villages of Morey-Saint-Denis, Chambolle-Musigny, Corton, Pommard, Volnay, Puligny-Montrachet and Santenay. The domaines 18 hectares yield 90,000 bottles annually and are managed in a spirit of respect for terroir. Le Domaine de la Pousse dOr can be traced back to the Dukes of Burgundy and the year 1100. Since 1997, its new owner Patrick Landanger has invested considerable resources both in the vineyards themselves and in the arrangements for vinification and elevage.
Sophisticated and supple in texture, this red is saturated with black cherry, blackberry, loam, iron and spice aromas and flavors. Shows dense, interwoven tannins, while the acidity keeps everything focused and drives the lingering aftertaste. Feels approachable, given the harmony, but give this another three to five years of aging. Rating: 95 Points; Wine Spectator
This is aromatically similar to the Bressandes but with sightly more evident sauvage elements. The equally sleek if not quite as dense medium weight flavors that possess a bit more minerality on the youthfully austere, sneaky long and well-balanced finale. This could also use better depth, but more should easily develop if given time. Date: Apr 2022; Drink: 2032+; Issue: 86; Rating: 91-93 Points; Allen Meadows; Burghound
