High in the Hills surrounding the Barossa lies Pewsey Vale, Eden Valley's pioneer vineyard. Pewsey Vale Vineyard is the hallowed home of Riesling. The vines can be traced back to the 1800's and the original James Busby collection of cuttings brought into Australia. Today Pewsey Vale Vineyard is a single vineyard dedicated to the single variety - Riesling.
Pale straw with green hues. Intense aromas of fine dried herbs, white flowers, lemons and lime. A long and rich palate, reminiscent of grapefruit, lime and fresh rosemary. The wine finishes with a soft natural acidity which balances the flavour and minerality that is delicious now or will reward medium to long-term cellaring.
I've mentioned before that when I lived in the Eden Valley we referred to this wine as 'Eden Valley San Pellegrino', such was its constant presence in the fridge for rehydration purposes. It's just a consistently cracking drink, with classic regional characters of Bickford's lime cordial, green apple, Christmas lily, crushed stone and white flowers. Crisp, dry, sleek in its travel and great drinking as always. Drink to: 2036; Price: $27.00; Date Tasted: October 2024; Alcohol: 11.5%; Rating: 93 Points & Special Value Star; James Halliday Wine Companion
