Established in 1976, Petaluma has unlocked the great potential of Riesling from the Hanlin Hill Vineyard in Clare, pioneered the Piccadilly Valley and Mount Barker in the Adelaide Hills and cemented the pedigree of the Evans Vineyard in Coonawarra, South Australia.
A full flavoured, richly textured wine. White peach, nectarine and lemon curd dominate the wine. Crunchy ripe apple and grapefruit complement the creamy barrel ferment complexity with light smoky toasty notes. Lemon meringue heralds a long layered finish with soft alluring acidity. A wonderful example of the modern Australian style and a testament to the great Piccadilly Valley vineyards Petaluma planted in the early 1980’s.
The pale, green-gold colour is a fine start. 2021 inspired. A fruit blossom-filled bouquet verges on outright perfume. The palate sleek and long, with fruit-sweet pink grapefruit and Granny Smith apple highlighted by partial mlf. Drink to: 2030; Date Tasted: November 2022; Alcohol: 13.5%; Rating: 96 Points & Special Value Star; James Halliday Wine Companion
Wonderfully focussed, bright and detailed cool climate Chardonnay showing aromatic subtlety integrated oak with citrus and stone fruit flavours. Savoury undertones with a vibrant energetic finish. Rating: 96 Points, Gold Medal and South Australian Chardonnay Trophy; International Wine Challenge
