Nicolas Potel inherited his father’s, Gérard, passion and love of high-quality Burgundy wines and traveled the world to take advantage of the opportunity to learn from the most prestigious winemakers and learn new approaches to work in vineyards. Nicolas later carried on the family philosophy into his own winery, La Maison Nicolas Potel. La Maison Nicolas Potel is a pioneer in innovation and modern techniques and have built their reputation by making wines from he most beautiful vineyards of the Burgundy region.

Discernibly more complex than its Petit sibling and sporting signature Chablis Chardonnay moves. Through the lens of some of the most distinctive terroir on the planet, it brings well-controlled acidity and minerality in league with an expansive fruit intensity rich in citrus, preserved lemon, baked apple, pear and nutty overtones. Sitting aromatically in charge is some delightful honeysuckle touches and gentle spice. Runs long and with great poise. This is the step-up in reputation for Nicolas Potel’s Chablis (well, everyone’s Chablis with Petit Chablis sitting the rank below standard Chablis), yet the difference in price is minimal. Don’t hesitate to take advantage. A gleaming pale gold. This wine offers a fraction more depth and concentration than the Petit. There are also very early hints of the complexity to come. A wine with balance, the flavours of apricots and peaches especially, are to the fore. There is a hint of a chalky backing, with some spices and a lingering finish – this has a decade of good drinking ahead of it. Date: Sept 2024; Price: $80.00; Drink by: 2024-2034; Rating: 93 Points; Ken Gargett; Wine Pilot
