Founded in 1921 by the legendary Maurice O’Shea, whose contribution to Australian wine cannot be understated. Widely recognised for setting the standard for modern Australian winemaking, his ‘fanatical perfectionism’ saw him create Mount Pleasant’s signature style of elegance, balance and exceptional longevity. For 100 years, Mount Pleasant has produced iconic, elegant and expressive wines championing the fruit and individual character of our four vineyard sites. The rare ancestral vines include some of the oldest clone plantings in the country. This makes the Old Hill vineyard, while best known for Shiraz, the oldest Pinot Noir vineyard in Australia.
Maurice O'Shea was a pioneer of Australian wine, creating long-lived, highly celebrated wines from the 1920s through to the 1950s that were admired the world over. Named in Maurice O'Shea's honour, this wine was crafted using the very best rigorously selected parcels from the Mount Pleasant Estate to create a wine that firmly speaks of its Hunter Valley home.
Fruit sourced from the Old Hill, Old Paddock and Rosehill Vineyards. Matured in 20% new large format French oak for 14 months. This is a truly sensational release. It has flow, fruit and form, but the drama is in the finish, which shoots majestically into the distance. This wine pretty much has it all. It fans classic regional red flavours across the palate; its core is strong and pure; its balance would do a yoga instructor proud; and it has X-factor up to its eyeballs. Drink to: 2050; Price: $250.00; Alcohol: 14%; Rating: 98 Points; James Halliday Wine Companion
