With four generations and over 100 years of winemaking to draw on, the McGuigan family has been a driving force in the Hunter Valley. Every generation has ensured winemaking is their lifestyle, dedicating their life to bringing Australia and the world some of the best wine.

Personal Reserve represents the pinnacle of McGuigan and are wines exclusive to the Hunter Valley Cellar Door. These wines are produced from super-premium, low cropping vineyards and produced in limited quantities depending on the availability of grapes. Only the finest materials and premium packaging are used in the making of these wine.

The Vanessa Vale Vineyard is primarily a red clay and this produces balanced crops at low yield levels. In 2017 season produced some of the best fruit I have encompassed in the last 40 years. The fruit was vinified over a ten-day period and the finished wine was matured for 12 months in new French oak. This wine is the epitome of great Hunter Shiraz and has enormous ageing potential.

The rich spicy plum and cherry aromas are layered with smoky oak and the palate has intense chocolaty complexity mixing with the varietal fruit. Lovely colour with inky purple hues, dark ripe fruit fragrances and a generous velvety smooth palate that fills the mouth with flavours of chocolate and licorice.
