86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Merlot, 3% Petit Verdot, 2% Cabernet Franc, 1% Malbec

Known as the “impossible wine” because of the steepness of the land from which its fruit was grown, presence of underground, rocky seams and outcrops that were thought to be insurmountable. In keeping with the traditional varieties of Bordeaux, this wine is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. This fifth vintage of our flagship signature red blend epitomises our commitment to honour and reflect the finest examples of the classic Cabernet Sauvignon-based wines upon which our region’s enviable reputation was forged and cemented.

Impressive wine. Built to last. Indeed, built around a spread of authoritative tannin. Berries and bay leaves, a spot of positive reduction, twig notes, saltbush and a clear but well-integrated swagger of cedarwood oak. Give it ten years in a cool, dark place and it will sing. Tasted: Aug 2020; Alcohol: 13%; Price: $200; Closure: Cork; Drink: 2024-2034+; Rated: 93+ Points; Campbell Mattinson; The Wine Front

Deep colour with brick-red rather than purple tints, and hence it appears forward-developed. There are a lot of vegetal, humus-like foresty aromas, rather than berries. It even seems stemmy, as in whole-bunch fermentation, which is unusual in cabernet. Nice oak, some tobacco elements, too. The wine is full-bodied and soft, fleshy and smooth-textured, with more berry fruit flavour than the bouquet reveals. Long carry. An interest-packed, left-field cabernet style. (The bottle weighs almost 1.2kg empty). Date Tasted: June 2020; Drink: 2020 to 2031; Price: $200.00; Alcohol: 13%; Rating: 96 Points; Huon Hooke; The Real Review

Medium purple colour with garnet edges. Redolent spice on first swirl of the glass: licorice, cloves, dried herbs and a bunchy pepper. Red and black berries with a briary seam. It's a luscious and juicier wine than the nose infers. Tannins are integrated and, with iron filings and tapenade, form part of its impressive structure. Red and black berry fruits wrapped within it. An excellent, aristocratic wine. Date Tasted: Feb 2020; Drink: 2020 to 2032; Price: $200.00; Alcohol: 13%; Rating: 97 Points; Nick Butler; The Real Review
