John Duval is one of the world’s best known winemakers. Toward the end of 2002, John retired from Southcorp after a distinguished career of 28 years, including 16 years as Chief Winemaker for Penfolds. John embarked on the development of his own label in 2003 using old vine Barossa Valley fruit and has created stunning wines that reflect the terroir of the Barossa and the hand crafted attention of John Duval.
Shiraz 100%, sourced from old vineyards Marananga, Eden Valley, Ebenezer and Krondorf regions. Traditional, low intervention winemaking techniques were employed with Entity, allowing the wine to be approachable in its youth, but with ample structure and fruit depth to allow great potential for improvement in the bottle.
Shiraz sourced from vineyards in Krondorf, Tanunda, Marananga, Moppa and Eden Valley (BV 85%, EV 15%), matured in French oak, 28% new, for 15 months. A vibrantly coloured multi-subregional blend that shows plum, black cherry and blackberry fruits cut with hints of baking spice, cedar, vanillin, mace, licorice and earth. A thickly shouldered wine, plush with ripe fruit and creamy oaken nuance finishing long and elemental with fine, chalky tannins and a sense of mineral definition. Date: Jan 2024; Alcohol: 14.5%; Price: $55.00; Drink by: 2038; Rating: 95 Points & Special Value Star; James Halliday Wine Companion
