Jean Marc Burgaud works in Cote du Py and surrounding parcels in Morgon. Crowned by Robert Parker’s Wine Buyer’s Guide as one of only eight five-star estates in Beaujolais, he is going from strength to strength and his response to critical acclaim and consumer adulation has been to work even harder.
The 2021 Morgon Les Charmes, which comes from vines planted in 1933, has a little more precision than the Grands Cras - more mineralite, even though they were in fact bottled the same day. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-boned tannins, open-knit - a little fleshy with a lovely poise on the finish. Jean-Marc remarked that this vineyard is more difficult to work - but it was worth the effort. Drinking Window: 2023 - 2032; Rating: 91 Points; Neal Martin; Vinous
The 2021 Morgon Les Charmes has also turned out nicely, revealing aromas of wild berries and plums mingled with sweet spices and soil tones. Medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy, with supple tannins, lively acids and a giving, charming profile, it lives up to its name. Rating: 91 Points; Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate
