Harewood Estate wines showcase the diverse and spectacular Great Southern region. Based in Denmark, along the coast overlooking the Southern Ocean, the estate vineyards cover two sites off Scotsdale Road north of the town: the original Harewood vineyard and the recently acquired Apricus Hill.

The grapes for this wine were sourced from a single vineyard near Tunney, a town about 40km North-East of Frankland River. It is the most northerly vineyard in Western Australia’s Great Southern wine region. Being over 100km inland, the Tunney vineyard experiences the warmest, driest days and the coolest nights. The grapes tend to have thicker skins and less juice producing more textural, structural Rieslings with flavours tending towards pear with hints of stone fruits.

A town some forty kilometres northeast of Frankland River, a single vineyard there provided these grapes. The region enjoys the warmest days of the team’s Riesling growing regions, but the coolest nights and this diurnal divergence has contributed to a thrilling wine. We move a little away from the lean, laser-focused styles dominated by citrus to a more rounded, riper style where texture is king. Yellow gold in colour, the notes of lemon are more to the glacé lemon end of the spectrum. Florals, stonefruit and spices with excellent balance and that seductive texture. Pristine in style, this is a complete wine. Love it. Expect it to offer pleasure for at least the next eight to fifteen years. Drink: 2024 - 2039; Price: $35.00; Rating: 95 Points; Ken Gargett

Another day, another excellent Harewood Riesling. Ha! Indulge my Riesling love, eh! This comes from Frankland River fruit. Definitely a more grapefruity style compared to the Denmark wine, and again excellent intensity – a big grapefruit punch, but with a Gewurz-like linalool edge. The palate is so perfectly defined, with a little black texta and green fruit in among the grapefruit. Just excellent length and carry, if slightly outclassed by the Denmark wines different shades of flavour and density. Hair-splitting! The only thing really wrong here is I have last vintage’s picture (which is becoming a habit). Drink: Now; Price: $35.00; Rating: 94 Points; Andrew Graham
