Gioiello Estate was the chosen name for this family winery, in recognition of past generations of the Schiavello family who worked at a property named Gioiello (‘jewel’ in Italian), perched above a hillside town in Calabria, Italy.
This barrel selected merlot displays concentrated dark berries on the nose. Rich dark berries framed by black olive reside on the palate with well-integrated oak.
This is a thoroughly beautiful Merlot from the Upper Goulburn, with spicy plummy notes on the nose with an infusion of blackberry and prune. The palate combines deep intensity with a delivery finesse. A little dark chocolate, black olive and lightly toasty oak completes an excellent Merlot. Date: Sept 2023; Price: $45.00; Drink: 2023-2033; Rating: 94 Points; Ray Jordan; Wine Pilot
This is elegant and beautifully refined, showing sweet berry, game, dried herb, clove and roasted nut aromas on the nose, followed by an elegantly weighted palate delivering fine persistency and flow, backed by chalky tannins, finishing lingering and structured. At its best: now to 2032; Rating: 94 Points; Sam Kim; Wine Orbit
