Giaconda vineyard was established by Rick Kinzbrunner, a mechanical engineer who became interested in wine in the early 1970's. Rick then spent the next ten years working in the industry, travelling and following his passion for wine. After a brief stint in New Zealand, he studied at Davis University in California and worked at some of the most respected wineries in the Napa and Sonoma Valleys (namely Stag's Leap, Simi and Matanzas Creek). In Europe he worked for the Moueix group in Bordeaux, co-owner of the fabled Chateau Petrus.

Damp earth, rose petal, red to black cherry-spiced with cinnamon, star anise and a hint of clove. A powerful underbelly of savoury tannins carry the exotic red fruit compote on a lingering journey. Structured like an classic old-fashioned Burgundy with a structural integrity that will see this evolve into an stunning wine, given several more years in the cellar. Our advice - give it time as the wait will be well worth it.

The 2021 Estate Vineyard Pinot Noir is a journey; at this early stage, it's a wine of several parts. First, it is aromatically sweet and creamy, with hints of strawberry, red cherry, cherry blossom and milk chocolate. In the mouth, the wine is savory, structural and silky. While the red fruit dominates, this is clearly a wine of complexity and svelte power—it is long and extended in the mouth, with sinewy tannins that hold the fruit, the acidity and the fine texture together as one. Medium deep crimson. Fresh wild strawberry, raspberry pastille, aromas with a hint marzipan/ roasted almond notes. Beautifully balanced Pinot Noir with strawberry, raspberry, red cherry, hint chinotto fruits, fine chalky/ al dente textures. Superb mid palate viscosity and underlying vanilla marzipan oak notes. Finishes slinky and long. Wonderful voluminous Pinot Noir with superb concentration and mineral torque. One of the finest of the 2021 Australian vintage.
