Borrowing its name from the address on Gaelic Cemetery Road, Grant Arnold’s 20-year-old vineyard is situated at an altitude of 400 metres about 3 kilometres north of the township of Clare. The vines are planted with an easterly aspect in gravelly loam, limestone and red–yellow clay, and consistently crop at a miserly 1.9 tonnes per acre.
84% Cabernet Sauvignon; 16% Malbec from a single estate vineyard in White Hut. Matured 17 months in seasoned French oak barrels. The Clare's signature blend, uniting crunchy red-berried energy and medium weight with chalk mineral tannins of considerable strength and longevity. Redcurrant and cassis aromas are brightened by rose petals, set to a savoury backdrop that speaks malbec. Engineered for the long haul, it loses momentum on the finish, but will hopefully build persistence in time.
