Domaine Dujac in Burgundy was acquired by Jacques Seysses in 1967. The domaine in Morey-St-Denis had 4 hectares of vineyards and he has subsequently built it up to 11.5 hectares. Domaine Dujac now includes holdings in Clos de la Roche, Clos St-Denis, Bonnes-Mares, Echézeaux and Charmes-Chambertin . "Use knowledge and technology to counter accidents - for example, bad weather - but, if all is going well, don't interfere," says Seysses and this principle guides much of what happens in the vineyards and the cellars. Dujac wines are neither filtered nor fined and all of his premiers and grands crus are aged in 100% new oak. These are wines of the very highest order.
A beautifully spicy nose exhibits aromas of plum, dark cherry, sandalwood and a hint of Asian-style tea along with a wonderful array of floral elements. Here too the middleweight flavors possess a wonderfully refined texture though there is no lack of punch or minerality on the dusty, youthfully austere, compact and very much built-to-age finale. This is very classy but it's also quite serious so be prepared to cellar it accordingly. Date: Jan 2024; Drink: 2037+; Issue: 93; Comments: Don’t miss; Rating 94-96 Points; Allen Meadows; Burghound
Bright purple, with a wealth of sensual fruit, leaps out of the glass to seduce at once. The sweeter side of raspberry. Immediately stunning as is its wont. Fills the mouth, now more strawberry with some vanilla cream from the oak. Perhaps no more than medium bodied, but with energy. Seductive but simpler. The 2022 Clos Saint-Denis Grand Cru is beautiful, wafting from the glass with aromas of sweet red berries, cherries, blood orange, rose petals and spices. Full-bodied, supple and suave, with a multidimensional core of cool, pure fruit, it's seamless and velvety, with lively acids and a long, saline finish. Date: Jan 2024; Rating: 95-97 Points; William Kelley; Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate
This delicious Clos Saint-Denis starts with a well-developed blackberry and pomegranate fruit aroma touched with star anise and pepper and a salty mineral tang to give it an impressive depth of flavour. The wine has much more density and substance than last year, with firm tannins and a beautifully lingering finish of haunting complexity. This wine should start to open within five to seven years and should drink well for decades afterwards. The grapes are from several parcels that total 1.47 hectares spread throughout the various lieux-dits of this emblematic climat. Drink: 2030-2065; Rating: 96 Points; Charles Curtis MW; Decanter
