Dr. Edge is made by Peter Dredge. Cutting his teeth at Petaluma under the watchful gaze of Brian Croser, he was lured to Tasmania and now resides in Hobart, working with his own label (Dr. Edge) as well as stepping into winemaking duties at Meadowbank.
Pinot noir sourced from the Tamar Valley and made by winemaker Peter Dredge. Deeper and moodier than its southern sibling. There is a really cool reductive, struck flint character on the nose that hovers above the dark cherry and wild strawberry fruits here. Still airy and filigreed but with a serious stare and a touch of darker spice, amaro herbs, red flowers, dried citrus rind, shiitake broth and light game. The tannins are like powdered granite and there is oodles of mineral energy on the finish. Date: Mar 2023; Alcohol: 12.5%; Price: $65.00; Drink by: 2030; Rating: 95 Points; Dave Brookes; James Halliday Wine Companion
Dark cherry, raspberry, distinct charcoal thing happening here, and while it’s a little overt and chunky as a young wine, the boisterous fruit and graphite tannin marks it out as a wine that should have an excellent future. Dried herb, nuts, cherry, and a ‘mineral’ inflection all make it seem like it’s waiting to make its mark. Give it a few years to roll out. Very good. Date: Mar 2022; Alcohol: 12.5%; Price: $65; Closure: Screwcap; Drink: 2024-2030; Rated: 94+ Points; Gary Walsh; The Wine Front
