Originating from Italy the De Iuliis family have made the Hunter region their home since 1960. After a long successful career in the Hunter mining industry, Joss and Anna De Iuliis were inspired to follow their family passion for wine and chose a property in the Lovedale Road region of the Lower Hunter Valley, converting a grazing property into a 20ha vineyard with the first vines planted in 1990. For the first decade they provided fruit for some of the Hunter Valley’s biggest names.
Sourced from the sandy creek flats of central Pokolbin. This unique vineyard has produced a classic Hunter Valley Semillon. The fruit was hand picked in 2021 prior to being gently whole bunch pressed to tank before a slow cool fermentation. In its youth this wine displays subtle citrus fruits, with a hint of jasmine and fresh ginger. The natural acidity will hold this wine in good stead for the future, and should drink well for the coming 10+ years.
From the celebrated Garden vineyard; hand picked, whole-bunch pressed to tank before a slow, cool fermentation. Always comes up trumps, with the full range of lemon citrus, lanolin and acidity just so. It's not sacrilegious to drink it now, but do keep a few bottles for five or so years. Date: Aug 2022; Alcohol: 11%; Price: $45.00; Drink by: 2032; Rating: 95 Points & Special Value Star; James Halliday Wine Companion
