Larry Cherubino has had a particularly distinguished winemaking career, first at Hardys Tintara, then Houghton, and thereafter as consultant/Flying Winemaker in Australia, NZ, South Africa, the US and Italy.  He has developed three ranges: at the top is Cherubino; next The Yard, single vineyard wines from WA; and at the bottom the Ad Hoc label, all single region wines. The range and quality of his wines is extraordinary, the prices irresistible.

Picked from vineyards in Pemberton, Porongurup and Margaret River, this is a bright and lively mid weighted Chardonnay with citrus and white peach accents finishing with creamy oak.

The 2022 Folklore Chardonnay is lovely; its fleshy and sweet fruit is spiced up by juicy acidity and a briny sort of vibe in the mouth. It's an insane value for the money at $15. Unreal. I didn’t know $15 Chardonnay could be this good! It has all the toasty oak/curry leaf/salted peach/pink peppercorn descriptors banked up and waiting in the wings. Exciting stuff. It blows a hole in my "there's no good cheap Chardonnay" theory. Honestly, I'm relieved to be wrong. Date: Mar 2024; Drink: 2024-2028; Rating: 91 Points; Erin Larkin; Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate
