Domaine de Bellene is located in Beaune in buildings steeped in history, dating from the 16th century. The origin of the domain name: "Bellene" comes from the name of the city of Beaune. The 24 hectares of vineyards stretch across many appellations and are all focused on organic farming. Winemaker Nicolas Potel goal is for Bellene to be Burgundy's first outright major organic Domaine.
This is also exuberantly floral in character with notes of rose petal, lilac, and violet on the earthy red berry fruit aromas though there is a hint of volatile acidity lurking in the background. The rich, velvety and seductively textured medium weight flavors exude evident minerality on the firm, serious and youthfully austere finish. Note that this will also need a few years to develop better depth and I would add that the VA is quite subtle and unlikely to bother most subscribers.
