Geoff and Joan established Barwon Ridge in the Barrabool Hills in 1999.
Ripe hand picked Shiraz was co-fermented in small vats with Marsanne skins using indigenous yeasts. The wine was matured in French oak. This is an aromatic, cool climate Shiraz of medium weight, with rich flavours, complex aromatics and long length.
Hand-picked, fermented with some whole bunches, plunged daily, matured for 18 months in French oak (25% new). A vibrant medium-bodied with a flavour wheel of red fruits seasoned by spice and pepper notes. Drink to: 2032; Date Tasted: March 2020; Alcohol: 13.1%; Rating: 95 Points; James Halliday; Wine Companion
Spicy cool-climate shiraz aromas of plums, violets, peppercorns and foresty whole-bunch notes give this aromatic shiraz impact. Barrel influence is nicely understated. Medium-bodied and spicy in the mouth, it has middling intensity and good balance. A fine example of Geelong shiraz. Date Tasted: March 2020; Drink: to 2025; Rating: 92 Points; Ralph Kyte-Powell; The Real Review
