The land grant on the historic Rowland Flat property was proclaimed by the Governor in 1847.
This is a best of vintage pick of the fruit. There is so much going on in here. On the nose you are immediately assail with a blackberry black cherry and dark plum combination. But then the palate. Yes, it’s intense and concentrated but there is almost an effortless big easy about it. Fine chalky tannin and a little sweet fruit, white pepper and a sprinkle of spices adds to further to the sensation. It’s still so tightly held and extended cellaring would pay off handsomely. This is substantial and lavish; the perfumed bouquet shows dark fruit, chocolate, toasty oak and warm spice aromas, leading to a concentrated palate that's packed with engaging complex flavours and textures. Flatteringly classy with powerful fruit and savoury notes, it's deliciously long and captivating. At its best: now to 2040. Price: $480.00; Rating: 97 Points; Sam Kim; Wine Orbit
An inky deep red in the glass, the nose is awash with black cherry and plum with a chocolatey oak influence and some green olive. The palate is bold, mouth filling but most importantly it has balance. Fruit, oak and tannin are truly expansive but all in equal measure. There is so much to unpick when drinking this wine and you can only think how much this will evolve over the coming couple of decades. Incredibly long and satisfying length to finish. Date: May 2023; Alcohol: 14.5% Drink: 2023-2040; Rating: 96 Points; Patrick Eckel; The Wine Reviewer
A first-pick, best-barrel selection with both a hefty price tag and bottle. Deep crimson and a rich, full-bodied offering with plenty of ripe dark plum, blackberry and cherry notes underscored with hints of baking spices, licorice, dark chocolate, earth, ironstone and espresso. Rich and teetering on the edge of broody, it lies on a raft of tight, grainy tannin and there is no shortage of deep black fruit and spice on the finish. Date: July 2023; Alcohol: 14.5%; Price: $480.00; Drink by: 2035; Rating: 94 Points; Dave Brookes; James Halliday Wine Companion
