Hoddles Creek Estate was established in 1997 when the D'Anna family decided to establish a vineyard on the property that has been in the family since 1960. The vineyard sits astride Gembrook road and adjacent Hoddles Creek.
To borrow a line from Mr Magoo, 'Oh, Franco, you've done it again!' I'm referring to the insanely good-for-the-money pinots that Hoddles Creek excels at. This is the first Wickhams Road Yarra where the majority of the fruit comes from Hoddles Creek. A super-bright ruby red, this nose is redolent with small red fruits while the palate is balanced, silky smooth and long. Delish! Good depth of medium-deep bright red-purple; aromas of dark and red cherries, sweet and fragrant, raspberry and dried strawberry tones as well, with a gentle dried-herb/underbrush overlay. In the mouth, there is remarkable intensity of flavour and also tannin structure that places it well above its station. Brilliant value.
